Columbia Field Trip

We visited the South Carolina State House on February 23, 2009.  We learned all about the history of the State House.  Did you know the State House was burned down twice, and shot by cannon fire six times?  We had the opportunity to visit the Senate and the House of Representatives while on a tour inside the State House.  Unfortunately, they were not in session so we didn’t see any action.  We did see, however, the beautiful artwork inside, and we went on a scavenger hunt on the State House grounds.  During the scavenger hunt we learned a whole lot more about our state’s history.  We even saw a time capsule that will be opened in 2036 to mark the 250th anniversary of the State House.  We figured out that we will be 35 and 36 when it is opened!  Ms. McCuen will be 55!!!  We had a great time on our trip and we hope you enjoy the pictures we took while we were there.  Thank you to Alex’s mom for some of these gorgeous shots.

This Sunday I went to the waterpark because I had a good day at school.  I got to go because it was my friend’s birthday party and it was fun.  They had food and they had this river and it was called Lazy Lagoon you could be lazy and I went on this giant slide.  There was one that you could go in the pool.  It was scary and there was the giant slide.  I went on it ten times or about 100 times because it was fun.  I went on the slide with a boy and when we slid into the pool we fell off, but I still had fun.

I Have The Whole World In My Room

One day when I got home from school and went in my room.  Then three hours later I came out of my room and I was soaked and then I told my mom what I had did.  I told her I swam with dolphins, but she just nodded and said, you must be daydreaming and I agreed but I wondered how did I get so soaked.  The next day I got home from school.  I worked in my room.  In three hours I went to my mom and told her what I did. I swung on vines with spider monkeys, but she did the same thing.  So I looked at her strangely.  I said to go with me so she followed me into my room and then she fainted.  My stomach growled at me so I went to Ryan’s and of course it was in my room.

I went to Carowinds. The first ride I went on was Runaway Reptar. It took two hours to get there.  I took a friend named Kayla, me, my sister, and her friend.  We got scared on the Haunted Mansion Scooby Doo.  This is funny on the ride Scooby Doo.  I touched my sister’s friend on the back of the head she got scared.  We got sopen wet and I was wearing blue jean shorts.  I got a rash when we got home.  This is my favorite ride. I rode an upside down ship and Spongebod Squarpants ship too.  They went…up and down and all around.  My mom said we will probably go next year.  We got to stay at a hotel.  We had fun!!!  I love Carowinds so so so so much.

I am so proud to have such a wonderful class of third graders.  The students in my class always show excellent effort to reach their goals.  As a class we set a goal for everyone to be in the Accelerated Reader 5 point club and we reached that goal!!!  Now the goal is for everyone to reach the 10 point club and keep climbing!!!  I know we can do it.

Every nine weeks our class will celebrate individual accomplishments during a Classroom Celebration.  During this time, there is an awards ceremony and parents are invited to join us and celebrate all the wonderful things that are happening in our classroom.  This nine weeks was awesome.  Three students received all A’s and ten students recieved all A’s and B’s.  Thirteen students in our class had Perfect Attendance and two Terrific Kids awards were given.  In addition to these awards, academic achievement awards and character awards were given to students for being quality students.

Today an orchestra came to school.  I liked the clarinet it was cool.  I felt good.  I love music. (Cody W.)

I like the people thaat came to my school because they played songs that I have heard before.  The songs they played made me feel happy.  There was five people playing songs together, and I liked that too.  They were good too. (Dyamond)

I know what a basoon looks like.  I liked it!  It was music! (Morgan)

It was very cool.  I think I might have heard some of the music before. (Cody J.)

My dad plays an instrument called the drums.  He plays it all the time. (Chance)

Today we got to see people play loving music. It made me happy.  It was a sound of joy in my ears. (Carrie)

What we saw in the lunchroom was terrific.  It was amusing every time they played.  My favorite song was Tago.  I pictured it in my mind. (Imani)

Today we saw a band that played wood instruments.  It made me feel wierd.  I’ve heard it before but I don’t know where.  It sounded like some song on Zelda. (Alex)

Today we watched a symphony play beautiful music.  It was very interesting.  I was very curious.  I liked it very much. (Dani)

I had fun.  I liked to listen to music.  Next time I want to listen to the last one they did.  It reminds me of cowboys.  I wish we could go there. (Victoria)

Amy had a basoon it made me happy.  Anthony made me laugh when he said directions are hard. (Ahmad)

It made me happy and they all played good and I was happy and having fun. (Katelyn)

I was sleepy when I went to the orchestra. It was tiring. They had great songs and great instruments.  Like the flute, clarinet, and a few other ones. (Garrett)

I had seen instruments like the instruments we just saw in the lunchroom.  We saw five people playing instruments that makes a lot of noise. (Curtis)

I want to play a flute when I grow up because it sounds cool.  I love the flute.  I love all the instruments.  I loved all the songs.  I have heard some of them, and I love all of the songs.  I love music.  (Chasity)
